Prof. Dr. Annamalai Thangavelu completed his BDS in 1990 and MDS in 1994 from Annamalai University. He has 28 years of experience in teaching and general dental practice. He is a member of many dental associations in India. Prof. Annamalai has attended more than 500 Conferences, CDE, Workshops, and Symposiums national and international. He presented more than 450 scientific papers, Guest lectures, and keynote lectures at CDE, State level, and national international conferences. Also, he presented more than 40 keynote lectures and guest lectures online at national and international conferences. Prof. Annamalai has published more than 90 Articles in national and international journals. He published 17 original research papers as a Ph.D. supervisor. He received many awards and recognitions.

Trismus: Challenges in diagnosis and management
TRISMUS is one of the challenging clinical situations that is managed by general dental practitioners. The etiology for this condition may be many like odontogenic, TMJ related, MOM related, Pain related, and Systemic diseases. Understanding the etiopathogenesis of this condition and assessment of para oral structure is mandatory for the correct diagnosis and to treat the cause. This Keynote lecture explains various etiology of difficulty in Mouth Opening, its cause, key diagnostic point,s and specific surgical & non Surgical management of the same. The Role of Physical Therapies in various situations is also discussed in detail with adequate case reports and a Review of Literature. The lecture will surely give a good take home message for the clinician and will change the perspective of management of the same.
TMD - A dentist perspective
Management of Dental Pain and Orofacial Pain is always challenging proper Diagnosis and management for a Dentist and Dental specialist. The reason behind this is the anatomical interrelationship between the occlusion, Muscles of Mastication, Temporomandibular Joint, and the Spine. It has also gained of lot of interest in recent years in Pain Clinics. A clear understanding of the origin of Pain, Cause of Pain, Presentations, Referred Pain, should be beard in the mind of physician on diagnosing and managing Ora facial Pain. This paper gives an overview of TMD (Pain and dysfunction of TMJ). The diagnostic aids and Appropriate management on a Dental specialist perspective. As there is an increase of Such patients in Dental clinics, we dentists play a major role in early diagnosis and management of the same.
Correction of Dentofacial Deformities: An oral & maxillofacial surgeons perspectives
Oro facial, Dento Facial, and Craniofacial deformities are one of the major components that a dental specialist handles in his day-to-day general dental practice. Starting from simple dental deformity & malocclusion to moderate skeletal and craniofacial deformities in various syndromic patients is highly challenging for a dentist, orthodontist, and OMFS to have a comprehensive understanding and to adopt an adequate treatment. The role of maxillofacial surgery in surgical planning and comprehensive management of such deformities is an absolute mandate. This paper explains the comprehensive multi-specialty assessment and planning on Dentofacial Deformities with adequate surgical case reports and a review of the literature.
Digital Oral Surgery
As we are the the digital era, the health profession is also influenced more by the innovation and applications of digital-based treatment planning and procedures. In dentistry, the introduction of 3D printing, and Scaners, has created an evolutionary effect on the outcome of the treatment rendered.
So is in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery. Virtual Surgical Planning, Guided surgeries using 3-D printed surgical guides, and the use of Patient-Specific implants in various aspects of Dental rehabilitation had created an impact on the quick and precise delivery of the surgical procedure.
This lecture will highlight the various surgical procedures which can be performed using Digital technology and their outcome with various clinical case reports on Implants, trauma, tumour, Orthognathic, TMJ, etc, and evidence-based discussion on the same.
Gummy smile: Surgeons perspective
A smile plays a major role in a person's esthetics, so dentists and dental specialists are responsible for recreating and designing a beautiful smile.
A Gummy smile is one type of smile with a high lip line and overexposure of the Gingiva which is unpleasant to many and needs a dental or surgical intervention to correct the same.
This paper highlights the role of the Gummy Smile in facial aesthetics and emphasizes the role of dentists and Maxillofacial Surgeons in the correction of the same. The treatment planning with digital technology in dental corrections and Virtual surgical planning for surgical correction are discussed in detail with adequate case reports and a review of the literature.
